OUR INGREDIENTS

Contrary to hybrid foods, non-hybrid foods are open-pollinated foods usually grown from seeds and pollinated by nature through insects, wind, or other natural mechanisms, hence nature-made. These varieties of plants are also as old as time and have actually been consciously preserved as seeds to be replanted every season.

Why Are Non-Hybrid Foods Healthy?

Since non-hybrid foods are closer to nature, they fall under the category of healthy foods. They are typically high-potassium, nutrient-dense foods with high antioxidant levels. And since such foods have not been genetically tempered, they obviously have a lower risk of causing diseases or allergies. And that is why epidemiological studies often label them as healthy foods.

List of Non-Hybrid Foods

As for non-hybrid foods, these include arugula, blueberries, and avocados – all of which have been grown without any modifications. And they’re actually considered some of the healthiest food options out there!

Hybrid foods are man-made foods that are not naturally present in the environment but are ‘made’ by cross-breeding different plant varieties to get plants with specific traits of interest, for example, high yield, resistance, enhanced nutrition, or even just better taste. This is in no way a new practice – it’s been commonplace among farmers for centuries now, but it still raises many eyebrows to this day.

Why Are Hybrid Foods Not Healthy?

Hybrid foods are generally assumed to be unhealthy – and that’s right, at least for the most part. You see, while these foods ultimately do have their benefits, they are produced from hybridization will result in plants that are better able to counter environmental stresses. However, this also means that they’re not as packed in terms of nutrition, especially when compared to their non-hybrid counterparts. Of course, not all hybrid foods are inherently unhealthy, but they're still generally considered not healthy.

List of Hybrid Foods

Hybrid foods include seedless watermelons, seedless bananas, non-browning apples, nutrient-enriched wheat varieties, extra nutritional golden rice, and many more. The purpose of these foods was to enhance certain desired traits like taste and nutrition.
